In a well kept corner of Westminster Burying Grounds sits an ornate monument marking the burial site of Baltimore poet, Edgar Allan Poe. Westminster Hall , once a church, is the eof the plot of land and houses the burial grounds catacombs as well. The E.A.Poe society of Baltimore recently held a fundraiser at the hall to support the Poe House and museum. The event incuded costumed characters, reading of many of Poe's works and a special guest appearence by Baltimore's other master of the macabre, John Astin (T.V's Gomez Addams).

The Hall and graveyard sit in the middle of a very built area of downtown Baltimore city, surrounde by office nuildings, parking garages and Univeristy Hospital. Stepping through the gate of the yard is like stepping back in time. The ancient gravestones mark the resting place for dozens of politicians, statesmen, and veterans of the American Revolutionary War and War of 1812. from the area.

Poe's grave actually contains not only his remains, but those of his wife, Virginia Cleem Poe, and Maria Clemm who was both his mother-in-law and his Aunt.
